At Canterbury Golf Club, every round begins with the principles of respect, integrity, and tradition. Our general rules are thoughtfully designed to maintain the spirit of the game, encourage fair play, and ensure a smooth pace for all. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or new to the course, these essential guidelines help create a consistent and enjoyable experience for everyone on the green.

Play Without Delay
Play promptly and avoid slowing down the pace. Let faster groups pass if you're behind.
Respect Lost Ball Time
Limit ball searches to 3 minutes. If not found, take a penalty and replay.
One Ball Rule
Only one ball should be used unless playing a provisional due to a lost ball.
Leave Green Promptly
After finishing a hole, leave the putting green quickly to avoid holding up other players.
Maintain Course Etiquette
Avoid distractions, loud behavior, or standing in another player’s line of play.

The Canterbury golf course is more than a playing field—it’s a carefully crafted landscape of challenge and charm. Our course-specific rules are tailored to preserve its beauty, ensure fair competition, and safeguard its natural features. From out-of-bounds calls to relief from obstructions, each rule supports both player performance and course sustainability, elevating your game in an environment of refined elegance.

Out of Bounds
Balls resting on fences or boundaries are out of bounds. Replay with a one-stroke penalty.
Relief from No-Play Zones
Players are allowed free relief and must drop the ball at the nearest safe spot, no closer to the hole.
Obstructions and Relief
Light posts, huts, and irrigation are immovable obstructions. Take free relief.
Ball Hits Light
If the ball strikes a light or post, cancel the stroke and replay it without penalty.
Repair Damage
Fix divots and pitch marks immediately. Carry a sandbag to restore course condition.

At Canterbury, your safety is as important as your score. Our weather and safety rules are in place to protect players and preserve peace of mind throughout your game.
